DAY 1 RECEPTION
We’ll be there to greet you at the Tepual Airport in Puerto Montt. From there, we’ll take you to your hotel in Puerto Varas, where you’ll meet your fellow travelers and learn all the details of our exciting trip. We’ll also deliver the motorcycles and provide you with a warm welcome dinner.
DAY 2 PUERTO VARAS - COCHAMÓ - HORNOPIRÉN 326 KMS. (15% OFF ROAD)
We will tour the beautiful Llanquihue Lake and get a good view of the imposing Osorno Volcano. Then, we’ll visit the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park where the Petrohué Falls are located. From there, we’ll continue bordering the Reloncaví Estuary until we reach the town of Cochamó. Once we arrive at Carretera Austral, also known as Route 7, we’ll stop in the town of Hornopirén to recharge our batteries and rest.
DAY 3 HORNOPIRÉN - PUMALIN PARK - CHAITÉN - FUTALEUFÚ 285 KMS. (35% OFF ROAD)
We will go to the Hornopirén pier and board the barge that will take us through the southern fjords for 5 hours until we reach Caleta Gonzalo. This town marks the beginning of the Pumalín National Park, one of the most pristine parks in the country. After trekking through the park, we will continue along Route 7 to Villa Santa Lucia, where we will enjoy 70 kilometers of dreamlike landscapes until we reach Futaleufú.
DAY 4 RAFTING IN FUTALEUFÚ RIVER - HORSEBACK RIDING AROUND FUTALEUFÚ
On day four, we’ll go on a rafting adventure in Futaleufú. Experienced tour guides will offer tips and instruction before we head off on our hour-and-a-half journey across class IV and IV+ rapids. Enjoy fast, continuous rapids, a lovely Patagonian landscape, beautiful forests, and turquoise water. Or, if you prefer to stay on dry land, you can opt for a guided horseback ride, perfect for beginners, through the Espolón Lake sector.
DAY 5 FUTALEUFÚ - RAÚL MARÍN BALMACEDA 214 KMS (65% OFF ROAD)
On day five, we leave Futaleufú and head west to take Route 7 until we reach the town of La Junta, which takes its name from the confluence of the Palena and Rosselot rivers. From there, we’ll go off road for 65 entertaining kilometers until we reach the barge that will help us cross the Palena River. We’ll arrive at Raúl Marín Balmaceda, an island of surprising beauty. Its sandy sediments form extensive beaches, which are home to an active wildlife population. We will then set sail for the Las Hermanas Islands, where you can observe all kinds of birds and marine mammals, including southern dolphins, orcas, blue whales, and sea lions.
DAY 6 RAÚL MARÍN BALMACEDA - QUEULAT NATIONAL PARK - COYHAIQUE 351 KMS (30% OFF ROAD)
It’s time to get back on Route 7 and head south for Queulat National Park. Once we arrive, we’ll take a trek to observe the imposing Hanging Glacier. After a break, we will overcome one of the biggest challenges on the Carretera Austral, the feared Cuesta Queulat, to advance through the evergreen Forest of the Aysén Region to its capital, the city of Coyhaique.
DAY 7 COYHAIQUE - SIMPSON VALLEY - PUERTO RÍO TRANQUILO 233 KMS (50% OFF ROAD)
We say goodbye to Coyhaique to head south, but not before visiting the beautiful meadows of the Simpson Valley. Then, we will head through the Cerro Castillo National Park where we will appreciate the imposing massifs. And, if we’re lucky, we may be able to spot Huemules.
After winding down the famous Cuesta del Diablo, we will arrive at Villa Cerro Castillo, a town that reminds us that we have only a few kilometers of pavement left. We will advance between mountains, bordering rivers and forests, until we see Lake General Carrera. Once we reach this point, you’ll know that our final destination,Puerto Río Tranquilo, is close at hand.
DAY 8 MARBLE CHAPELS NAVIGATION
Get ready to tour the Marble Chapels, also known as the Marble Cathedrals.They are one of the most important tourist attractions in Patagonia. Composed of three limestone formations, they stand out for the beauty of their columns and the intense blue of the waters that protect them. The Cathedral, the Chapel, and the Cave, sculpted on the shores of General Carrera Lake, make up one of the most beautiful landscapes on the Carretera Austral. After pausing for photos and spectacular views, we’ll rest up in preparation for the second leg of our trip.
DAY 9 PUERTO RÍO TRANQUIL - CALETA TORTEL 238 KMS. (100% OFF ROAD)
A new day begins as we border the General Carrera Lake until we reach the impressive bridge of the same name. Then, we will advance between lakes and forests until we reach the confluence of the Neff and Baker rivers, the latter of which is the largest in the country. After a short walk, we will pass through Cochrane and then arrive at Caleta Tortel, one of the most picturesque towns in Chile. It features almost 8 km of walkways of Ciprés de las Guaitecas that go into the fjords next to the mouth of the Baker river, between the North and South Ice Fields
DAY 10 FULL DAY NAVIGATION GLACIER JORGE MONTT
Your navigation adventure begins at 8:00 a.m. with a rich breakfast. You’ll travel from the Tortel cove through the fjords and archipelagos until you reach the fjord of floating icebergs. After anchoring, you’ll board an auxiliary boat, and we’ll approach the wall of the Jorge Montt Glacier. You’ll enjoy a walk through the pre-glacial moraine in search of other views of the Southern Ice Field. Then, you’ll head back to the boat for a special toast made with ancient ice and a delicious lunch. On the way back to Caleta Tortel, you’ll enjoy a snack as we navigate through the fjords.
DAY 11 CALETA TORTEL - VILLA O'HIGGINS - PUERTO BAHAMONDES 158 KMS (100% OFF ROAD)
Make the most of your morning with a visit to the beautiful town of Caleta Tortel. Afterwards, we’ll return to Route 7 and travel between mountains, rivers, cliffs, and lush forests to arrive at Puerto Yungay. There, a barge will transport us to Río Bravo to continue our trip to Villa O'Higgins. Just kilometers away from this destination, you will find Bahía Bahamondes and a sign indicating you’ve reached the end of the Carretera Austral. We’ll commemorate the occasion with a photo and then head to Villa O’Higgins for a celebratory Patagonian barbecue dinner.
DAY 12 VILLA O'HIGGINS - COCHRANE 234 KMS (100% OFF ROAD)
After a replenishing breakfast, we’ll head north along some of the most beautiful parts of Route 7. If time allows, we will stop at various viewpoints to take in the landscape. The day’s journey will come to an end once we reach Cochrane.
DAY 13 COCHRANE - PATAGONIA NATIONAL PARK - CHICO CHILE 178 KMS (100% OFF ROAD)
On this day, we’ll reach the Chacabuco Valley. There, we’ll be welcomed by a sign announcing the entrance to the Patagonia National Park. This park is home to hone of the highest levels of biodiversity in the Aysén region. Mountain ranges, dozens of lagoons, and spectacular lakes await you.
After you’ve taken in the views, we’ll return to Route 7 and travel north until we reach General Carrera Lake. Then, we’ll ride through the southeast end of the lake and tackle complex routes to reach Chile Chico.
DAY 14 CHILE CHICO - PUERTO INGENIERO IBÁÑEZ - COYHAIQUE 179 KMS (40% OFF ROAD)
On our next to last day, we’ll cross General Carrera Lake by barge. After 2 and a half hours of navigation, we will arrive at the town of Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez. From there, we’ll take a route that offers a great view of the Cerro Castillo massif until we reach Route 7, which will take us back to Coyhaique where we will enjoy a farewell dinner.
DAY 15 COYHAIQUE - BALMACEDA AIRPORT
Even the best journeys must come to an end! We will pick you up from the hotel and transport you to the Balmaceda Airport for departure.
